Lyrical music video

Project Brief

This brief was about conceptualizing a lyrical music video based on a South African local artist and song. The brief explained that we should create a lyrical music video for our chosen song using kinetic typography as the main focus, we also were able to use animations if needed to match the theme of the song and the history of the song.
By doing this it allowed us to help the audience understand the deeper meaning behind the song lyrics.
A deeper understanding of the song Run Jozi by AKA.

AKA and Yanga’s song “Run Jozi (Godly)” expresses the artists’ confidence and joy in their achievement in Johannesburg, South Africa. The lyrics, which make reference to the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi as well as the dominance of materialism and consumerism on television, contrast their modest beginnings with their thirst for power. The song also refers to anti-apartheid activist Chris Hani, highlighting the need for education and firsthand knowledge in comprehending South African history.

The hook uses snippets of “Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika,” the South African national song, to express their pride in their nation and the power of their team.

Final Concept idea
For my final concept idea, I have decided to go with a newspaper flip animation as it shows propaganda more and the deeper meaning behind the lyrics of the song with apartheid and propaganda.
This was inspired by the simple newer newspapers of South Africa, the colour scheme was inspired by Time magazine which is a simplistic professional colour scheme.
